FRIDAY 14th SEPTEMBER
4pm - The courtyards open to visitors; the town streets fill with people and the homes in the historic centre with the smells and flavours of the past: housekeepers, shepherds and craftsmen evoke ancient crafts that have been passed down to today’s products.
In the town streets: “Alla scoperta di Caras: volti del buio leggendario in un volo gotico” (Discovering the legend of Caras), arrangement by Roberto Serri.
Opening of the exhibit “L’olivo e il paesaggio”, photos by Angelino Congiu, put on by the Pro Loco, in Casa Monni, via Ichnusa.
5pm - Conference entitled “Oliena e l’olio: ritorno al passato con uno sguardo alle tecniche del futuro” (past and present techniques of oil-making in Oliena), Sala Conferenze Biblioteca Comunale via Vitt. Emanuele, 7.
9pm - Book presentation: “Francesco Cossiga dall’A alla Z il vocabolario del sardo che viveva per la politica”, by Anthony Muroni, and the Casa Editrice Ethos, in Piazza Berlinguer.
10pm - Musical evening organised by the Pro Loco, in Cortile Casa Monni via Ichnusa.

 

SATURDAY 15th SEPTEMBER

10am - In the courtyards the women bake bread, make pasta and sweets and grapes are crushed for wine-making. Shepherds make cheese and artisans craft iron, leather and wood. Embroiderers and goldsmiths are busy in the creation of shawls and costume jewellery.
Exhibits:
• “Lenci. Ceramics in Sardinia”, organised by the Associazione culturale Arteficio, in the Ex Collegio dei Gesuiti via C. Bisi.
• “La via Crucis interpretata da Hòro” – mounted by Anna Gardu, Casa Padre Solinas via P. Solinas.
• “Le amiche di Freya” - Princesses, Horsemen and Janas of Sardinia, a painting exhibit by Sara Bachmann, Casa Mula via Bixio.
• “Casa del Folklore: Sardinian traditions and culture”, an exhibit of costumes and handmade objects of Sardinia, by the gruppo Battos Moros, Sala Esposizioni Comune di Oliena via Dott. Puligheddu.
10am - S'ògiu, dae s'àrbore a sa mesa: children’s educational games workshop, by ULS Provìntzia de Nùgoro e Servìtzios Linguisticos Territoriales, Giardino Calamida.
10.30am - Presentation of “Italian olive oil: 100% Italian, traced, high quality”; by Cooperativa Olivicoltori, Biblioteca comunale. Followed by tasting in the corte Corrias, via Vitt. Emanuele.

5pm - “L’estasi del palato: guided tasting of high quality olive oil”, Casa dei Gesuiti via Don Casula, by Jumpadu producers.
5pm - Entertainment in the town streets by folk groups and tenor singers.
From 6pm - Musical entertainment in the courtyards by the Polyphonic Choir.
9pm - Evening of song, music and dance in the Sardinian tradition, by gruppo Battos Moros, Piazza Berlinguer.

 

SUNDAY 16th SEPTEMBER

10am - Century-old myths and rituals come to life in a poignant itinerary in the courtyards and town streets, thanks to the labour and creativity of men, women, and children at play.
The town welcomes its visitors with round dancing and tenor singers.
From 11am - Films from the past on daily life in Oliena: from olive-picking and oil production to festivities, Casa dei Gesuiti via Don Casula, by Jumpadu producers.
11.30am - “La storia del pane: dalle origini ai giorni nostri” (Bread making, today and in the past), a recital by Gianluca Medas with guitar accompaniment by Andrea Congia, Corte Su Vicariu Carrus via Dante, put on by Gostolai producers.
From 5pm - Music and song of Sardinia with Cecilia Concas and Paola Puggioni and the sound of the launeddas wind instrument with Nicola Agus and folk groups, Piazza Berlinguer.
THROUGHOUT THE FESTIVITIES
• Visits to the Museo del Fazzoletto (women’s headscarves) P.zza Berlinguer (Fri 14, 4-8pm; Sat 15 & Sun 16, 9am-8pm), by the Pro Loco.
• Exhibit “Luci e ombre” by Carmelo Picca - Casa Putzu, Corso Vitt. Emanuele.
• Workshop for children from 6 to 12 years: ancient arts, crafts and traditions, by the Biblioteca comunale, via Vitt. Emanuele, dell’Auser c/o Giardino Calamida and Gruppo Folk su Durdurinu P.zza Giovanni XXIII; Registration at Presidio Turistico.
• Visits to the old olive-making workshops.
In case of inclement weather outdoor activities will be held at the public library.
